A 10-year U.S. Navy veteran, touring musician, audio engineer, father of three, coach, and lifelong creative, Doug “Smitty” Smith brings discipline, artistry, craftsmanship, and real-world music experience to Scorpion Percussion. His musical path began aboard ship, where creativity became both an outlet and a calling. After leaving the service, Doug earned a Bachelor of Science in Audio Engineering, building a technical foundation that would support his work in music, production, product development, and brand building.
That foundation carried into years of writing, recording, performing, and touring with his metal band QUOR, a three-piece power prog metal trio. QUOR independently toured the U.S. nationally 3 times, completed West Coast and Southwest tours, and performed four international tours across Japan and Thailand, totaling nearly 30 overseas shows. Through hundreds of performances across multiple countries, Doug gained firsthand insight into what working musicians need from the tools they trust on stage and in the studio.
Beyond music and business, Doug is passionate about construction, woodworking, storytelling, and creating products with purpose. His mix of military discipline, touring experience, audio engineering knowledge, and maker’s mindset shapes Scorpion’s identity and inspires the music community. When he’s not in the shop, at a show, on stage, in the studio, or behind his computer answering customer service messages, Smitty enjoys sailing, coaching, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.

The real magicians of Scorpion Percussion. This is where good sticks get cut and only the Immortal survive. Crafted from premium American hickory, our crew is trained to seek and destroy inconsistencies—weight variance, tonal mismatch, warping, imbalance, and weak points. Every pair is scrutinized through precise weight matching, tone sorting, and straightness checks, while our center-balanced taper and oversized tip design enhance durability and control. The result? Sticks that absorb impact, maintain balance, and outlast the rest.
