Karelius “Eldrasil” Ihlang (born September 29, 1999, in Fredrikstad, Norway) is a Norwegian drummer, composer, and multi-instrumentalist known for his dynamic blend of technical precision and emotional intensity. Growing up in Årnes and Jessheim, he began playing drums at age six and has since built a reputation across the European metal scene through his work with bands such as Jotnir, Eldamar, Askheimr, and most recently Paracrona, where he performs alongside ex-Borknagar guitarist Jens Fredrik Ryland. In 2023, Karelius founded Belfalas, his atmospheric solo project rooted in melodic black and death metal, showcasing his abilities not only as a drummer but also as a composer and producer.
Beyond extreme metal, Eldrasil writes reflective, cinematic piano compositions, creating all music himself and drawing heavily from personal experience. Music runs deeply in his lineage. His father, Gisle Røen Johansen, is an acclaimed Norwegian jazz saxophonist and composer, while his mother’s Romani heritage contributes a rich cultural and rhythmic foundation.
