At Scorpion Percussion, we’re proud to shine a light on the incredible drummers who embody what it means to live and breathe rhythm. One of those players is Quincy “Q.D.” Fields from New Jersey — a family man, performer, and long-time groove specialist with an unmistakable energy behind the kit.
Quincy, along with his wife and son Chris, made the trip out to Anaheim for NAMM 2025, where they showed up early to our booth, rolled up their sleeves, and helped bring the Scorpion spirit to life all weekend long. Their warmth, work ethic, and musicianship perfectly reflect what our artist family stands for.

🥁 10 Questions with Quincy “Q.D.” Fields
-
What Scorpion model do you play and why?
“I play a combination of 5AV and 3AV — both acorn and ball tip. They give me the perfect blend of balance, rebound, and feel for any gig I’m on.” -
When did you get into music and drums?
“It started from The Blues Brothers in 1980 and never stopped.” -
How did music change you as a person?
“It made me understand what conversation is about. It’s all listening and responding.” -
What were some of your early influences?
“Of course James Gadson — and two drummers who played in the hair-band era: Steve Sweet from Warrant and Michael Foster from FireHouse.” -
What’s your favorite way to listen to music?
“Live. There’s just nothing like it.” -
When was your first show?
“I was playing The Elbow Room in New York City with my band Serious Fool back in ’01.” -
Have you ever taught someone how to play?
“I had a few lessons, but honestly — music was my teacher.” -
What gear are you currently using?
“I play Pearl & Yamaha drum tempo music snare drums, 7th Hill cymbals, Remo drumheads, and of course my signature Scorpion 5AV Ball sticks.” -
Who are some of your favorite musical inspirations outside drumming?
“Listening to Bill Withers, and I’ve always loved movies like The Blues Brothers and Purple Rain.” -
Tell us about your band.
“I have my own group, Cool Cat Collective. We play a mix of covers and, God willing, soon originals — just trying to keep the party going as long as we can, and enjoying every second of it.”
