Vito Hicks - Signature Artist
"After years of trying to find the right stick for me, I had given up. Then I started to hear hype about a company called Scorpion Percussion so I had to see what all of the hype was about. I’m glad I did! Trust me, it’s worth the hype!"
Born in Kokomo Indiana in 1994, Matthew “Vito” Hicks played drums in one way or another from the time he could walk. Whether it was with playing pots, pans and spoons, or couches and barstools with screwdrivers, he always knew that he wanted to be a drummer. Growing up, he was heavily influenced by his mother’s musical taste. Rather than listening to music a normal child would listen to, Vito picked his Mother’s Ozzy and Black Sabbath CDs instead. As he got older, he started to find his own favorites via his Mother’s Ozzfest compilation CDs. This led him to bands like System of a Down, Linkin Park, Rob Zombie, and most importantly Slipknot. As soon as he heard Slipknot’s Joey Jordison, he knew that drumming was what he was going to do with his life In 2006 he was finally given a drum set for Christmas. Throughout the rest of his school career, he would practice every day after school. This lead to often skipping class during high school so he could stay home and play drums instead. In 2019, after years of practicing and playing music with friends, he decided it wasn’t going to work and wanted to quit music altogether. It was then that Jon Benjamin asked Vito to join Karma Kids. He figured he would give it a shot because he had nothing left to lose. After 4 albums and an EP with Karma Kids, Vito is stoked that he decided to give it another shot.
