Chris Dovas is a Boston-based studio and touring Metal drummer that is competent in a vast range of musical genres and styles. Being influenced by many genres of music has inspired him to implement technical and emotional elements into his playing. Chris has enough energy to power various audiences as his performance is ignited by his soulful touch of the instrument, and his passion. Chris is currently an active member of Testament and DOVAS. Previous full time bands include: Seven Spires, Vital Remains, and Unflesh Participating. These projects have allowed Chris to showcase his technical skills in various genres of Metal music.

We got a chance to chat with Chris about his life as a drummer.

How long have you been playing music / drums?

20 years. I got into music as a young kid, around 5 or 6 years old.

What's your Scorpion Percussion model? 

5B | Acorn | 16.5" | Lacquer - I love the thickness, and the extra length makes playing at high speeds more comfortable.

What were some of you early influences?

Tommy Aldridge, Trey' Cool, Stuart Copeland, Neil Peart, George Kollias.

What's your favorite way to listen to music?

I like to listen on headphones, or in the car.

What was your first concert?

Rush - in 2007

Have you ever taught another person how to play?

Yes I currently teach drum lessons!

What is your favorite part of your drumkit?

Having 2 bass drums.

Do you play with a metronome? When and where do you use it?

I always practice to a metronome. Especially a lower toned one.

What have you been working on musically lately?

The new Testament record and further developing my skills as a musician. I always try to learn new things as much as I can!

When's your next live outing?

July - August EU festival tour with Testament.

What is your favorite thing about being in a band?

Creating new music and performing it live for people to hopefully enjoy.

For people who write music, what is one piece of advice you can give?

Don't force anything.
